Academic Hub Pivdenny launched by Pivdennyi Bank in collaboration with Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
What kind of project is this?
Contemporary higher education gives students a solid theoretical foundation; however, graduates often lack practical understanding of how the market operates and of their career prospects. Therefore, it is business who should lend a helping hand by solidifying educational guidance using case-based learning and experience. Academic Hub Pivdenny launched by Pivdennyi Bank in collaboration with Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is a great example of such helping hand. It helps the students of the Faculty of Economics of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv to combine theory and real-world business practices. The main goal of the project is to design an adaptable academic programme to meet the needs of contemporary business. The global goal is to demonstrate the career growth prospects in Ukraine to the youth.
History of creation
The prerequisite for the project was a survey of corporate sector employers on problematic issues of economic education, which was conducted by Pivdennyi Bank in partnership with Gradus Research.
The study showed the business’ expectation concerning the applied economic education. 79% of the respondents voiced the need for practical learning component. And business should assist universities in this case, i.e. conduct lessons based on real-life business cases, offer internships to students, and launch grant programmes.
Events during the terms
- Each academic year is divided into two terms.
- 12 workshops were organised the first year.
- The second academic year saw the expansion of a list of topics, addition of seminars and panel discussions.
- Key topics: compliance, bank’s financial model, macroeconomic analysis, corporate culture, risk management, investment in uncertain conditions.
- Over 1000 students engaged in the programme.
- 37 students have already been granted special scholarships by the Bank.
- In March 2025, the Pivdennyi Bank’s academic course was included in curriculum of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv as a credit course.
The programme was taught by the bank experts and invited speakers from international institutions, in particular, from the European Investment Bank and IFC.
Awards
In 2024, Academic Hub Pivdenny received a special award “For contribution into working with young talents” from the organisation committee of Premium HR Brand of Ukraine.
In 2025, Academic Hub Pivdenny became one of the winners of Development of Education, Culture, and Sports Category at Responsible Country 3.0 Social Initiatives Contest organised by MMR Journal of Marketing, Communication and Creative Initiatives and supported by Delo.ua.
The awards received by the project is yet another proof that the Bank’s efforts aimed at the development of public higher economic education and creation of conditions for the students to be able to live and work in Ukraine do resonate with the society.
Student
The Bank regularly rewards the most active students with certificates and scholarships based on their performance during autumn and spring terms.
Furthermore, the top students receive invitations to massive events such as Forbes Money and Entrepreneurs Forum 2025 thanks to the collaboration with Forbes, which gives them an opportunity to participate in academic and professional networking.
