The Macedonian king, Alexander III the Great, was born in 356 BC. By the end of his life at 32 he had become one of the greatest commanders in the history of mankind, creating a global state, which later collapsed after his death. The name Alexander means "protector of people". He ascended the throne at the age of 20 after the death of his father, and in seven years had completely conquered the Persian Empire. The coin depicts the Star of Vergina, a symbol of power, victory and valour. The star has 16 rays, which means that it represents the Sun. In the centre of the star is a cat's-eye stone. This is a peace-making stone that brings reconciliation to conflicting parties and provides peace and tranquility to the family. Such a coin would be a great gift for men!
