Dedicated to a significant ancient monument - Tauric Chersonese (from Greek - the Tauric Peninsula), a city-state on the southwestern coast of Crimea, founded in 422 - 421 BC, which minted its own coin. The history of Tavrichesky Chersonese is divided into two periods: ancient (from its foundation to the 4th century AD) and medieval (5th - 15th centuries). For two millennia, during the heyday of ancient Greece, Rome and Byzantium, Chersonese was a significant trade and cultural center on the Crimean peninsula, playing a special role in the relations between Byzantium and Kievan Rus.
