Pivdenny Bank issues a silver coin dedicated to Ukrainian borscht

17.01.2023

Pivdenny Joint-Stock Bank in cooperation with the Polish Mint has issued an exclusive coin dedicated to the inclusion of Ukrainian borscht in the UNESCO heritage.

“The idea of creating a Borscht coin appeared after Ukrainian borscht was included in the list of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage,” said Olha Havrylova, Head of Banking Metals at Pivdenny Bank. “The battle for borscht began long before the war. And the recognition by UNESCO in the summer of 2022 of borscht as an object of Ukraine’s cultural heritage became one of the symbolic victories. This is a common practice when important events are minted in coins. Without a doubt, after the victory in the symbolic war for borscht, Ukraine will also win the great war for its independence.”

According to Olha, they decided to immortalize the main Ukrainian dish in a coin also because it unites all regions of our country from east to west – it is a true symbol of Ukrainian unity. They cook it differently in various cities and villages, but everywhere they put real Ukrainian care and love into it.

A Borscht coin made of 999 silver was released in a limited edition – only 555 copies. The coin is decorated with digital and microprinting, its weight is 17.5 g, the year of issue is 2022, this is the year of official inclusion in the list of UNESCO Cultural Heritage.

Coins will be sold in Ukraine exclusively at Pivdenny Bank. The cost of the coin is UAH 5,000.
