Blocking and conversion

Detailed information on the features of blocking and converting funds during card payments

Any payment card transaction is made in two stages:

  1. Blocking of funds (authorization).
  2. Settlements on account – the final debit/credit of funds from/to the account can take place within 30 days, including the debit/credit of P2P transfers – up to 3 transaction days.

Due to the delay between the blocking of the amount on the account and its actual debit due to fluctuations in the exchange rate, as well as when blocking at the Mastercard or Visa exchange rate (but debiting at the bank exchange rate), there may be a difference between the amount of funds blocked and debited from the account.

Blocking

The blocking amount consists of:

  • transaction amount at the exchange rate set by the bank and/or payment system;
  • conversion fee (except for Visa Signature and Mastercard World Elite cards);
  • cash withdrawal fee.

You can find rates in the Rates section on the bank's website.

See the Q&A section below for details.

Payments

During the settlement (debiting) process, the initially blocked amount is recalculated taking into account the following factors:

  • The bank's current exchange rate and the Mastercard or Visa rate on the date of debiting.

  • The actual decision regarding the application of fees to the transaction.

As a result of this recalculation, the initially blocked amount may be adjusted either upward or downward.

The Bank tariffs the successful operation (if it is subject to tariffing) regardless of the available account balance to cover it. However, the debiting of the accrued fee occurs only if there is a balance sufficient to cover it. The client can review the fact of fee accrual/settlement, etc., by viewing the account statement.
