Panic buying in pharmacies has already fallen, and the cost of food delivery continues to rise

14.05.2020

During the quarantine in March-April, Ukrainians spent 80 % more on food delivery than in January-February this year.

This is evidenced by the statistics on Pivdenny Bank payment cards.

In April there was a drop in non-cash payments in pharmacy chains and the volume of purchases returned to the level of January-February. This happened after purchases in pharmacies in March grew by 39 %.

“This indicates a decrease in the level of panic among the population, as well as the smooth functioning of enterprises in this industry,” explains Olga Kolomiets, Head of the Product Development Management at Pivdenny Bank's Retail Business Department.

At the same time, purchases at grocery stores continued to grow by 3 % compared to March. This despite the fact that in March purchases at grocery stores and supermarkets increased by 39 % and 26 % compared to January-February.

During quarantine, the demand for clothes and shoes decreased significantly. In March-April, Pivdenny Bank payment card holders reduced their expenses in this category by 80 %.

We would like to remind you that at the beginning of quarantine, from 10 to 13 March, the demand for cash currency at Pivdenny Bank branches increased 5.5 times. At the end of March, the situation returned to normal, and demand for cash dollars fell three-fold compared to the same period in January-February.
